After Your Ceremony

I will place the Record of Solemnization (tear off portion) from the Marriage Licence into an envelope and leave it with your best man/bridesmaid, wedding planner or designated person. This is your portion to keep.

I will mail the rest of the Marriage Licence within 48 hours to the Registrar Generals Office where your information and marriage will be registered. You will not receive any notice or any paperwork from the government confirming the registration.

In order to receive your official Ontario Marriage Certificate you must apply for it here. You should wait 6-12 weeks following your wedding before applying for your Marriage Certificate.

Couples don't have to legally change a last name (surname). But if you choose to this can be done through ServiceOntario here

Please note that it is not the responsibility of the officiant to purchase your Marriage Licence or order your Marriage Certificate.
